Dyslexia Awareness Month falls in October every year, and it's the time of year when we focus on promoting a more accessible and inclusive world for people with dyslexia and low literacy, as well as celebrating dyslexic excellence!
Southern Festival of Books
The Southern Festival of Books: A Celebration of the Written Word is among the oldest literary festivals in the country, annually welcoming hundreds of authors and thousands of visitors to downtown Nashville each October.
The Festival, a program of Humanities Tennessee, is free and includes performance stages, food trucks, and loads of publishers and booksellers.

Dyslexia Screening Event
This is a community outreach event offering a $20 dyslexia screening to determine if your child may display some of the possible markers of dyslexia and if further testing may be needed. No formal report or diagnosis will be written from these screenings and if further questions or testing is needed our screening staff will be able to point you in the right direction for the next steps. Only 14 spots are available so sign up before it’s too late!
Teacher Work Days (No students)
To allow our teachers time to organize their classroom, lesson plan, wrap up their to-do lists, etc we will not be seeing students May 28 - May 31.
CALT Training Day - Advanced (Year 2)
Over the course of two years, a Qualified Instructor (QI) will effectively instruct and train a group of teachers and specialists in Take Flight, an accredited dyslexia intervention program created through the Luke Waites Center for Dyslexia at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children and will provide all instructional and observational hours to therapists-in-training.

This theme continues our longstanding commitment to support educators in leveraging their students’ diverse strengths and addressing their weaknesses to elevate learning. Nationally recognized language and literacy experts will be featured as they share their expertise and unique perspectives on the intersection of bidialectalism, multilingualism, developmental language disorder (DLD), and dyslexia. They will explore the unique nature of each as well as their intersections. We invite you to join us in-person on campus or online virtually for this free conference.

The 2024 Winter RISE Virtual Conference will provide a virtual opportunity for students, teachers, parents, and practitioners to engage with and learn about key issues surrounding language learning differences, including dyslexia.
Coffee & Conversation: Navigating Reading Difficulties
Parents are encouraged to attend this special event hosted by Academic Language Therapists Jenn Ward and Paula Wood. During this time you’ll learn how reading difficulties can affect your child, what you can do to help, more details on the curriculum we use, and have the chance to get your questions answered!
